"Nico-Team" Seeks Answers in Zebrafish
At what age do juvenile zebrafish begin seeking nicotine? Two rising DePauw juniors are trying to answer that seemingly random question - and their pursuit during a summer research project is not as random as a layperson might think. The answer could someday figure into research into humans' nicotine-seeking behavior.

Biobus
Summer Internship With BioBus
This summer, Eduardo Garcia has been interning at a Non-Profit organization called "BioBus" which is based in Harlem, New York. BioBus focuses on increasing science education access for students attending schools in underserved communities around the city. Their mobile labs allow them to travel to schools and provide a lab experience to students who prior to their arrival, may have never been in a science lab or used essential scientific research tools like a microscope. Their objective is to tap into the scientific potential of the K-12 students they serve, improving scientific literacy and engagement throughout the city. Ultimately, contributing to the creation of a future where all cultures and backgrounds have equal representation in the sciences.

Diana Borse enhances the environment in Olin for plants, animals and humans
Diana Borse has been a great addition to the DePauw Biology Department in summer 2018, working as our Biology Collections Intern. She has enhanced Olin Hall's animal displays (including building a new habitat for our rainbow boa) and has worked to publicize our greenhouse collection in real live and via social media. She has also helped strategize about ways to welcome alumni and visitors from Greencastle back into Olin. Her work in Olin has been greatly appreciated by all of the species who spend time here, from bromeliads to biochem majors.
